All Killer No Filler - Emerson, Lake & Palmer

Emerson Lake & Palmer is credited with bringing the ambition and complexity of progressive rock to the mainstream. The genre had been pushing the boundaries of rock music and incorporating the likes of jazz and classical since its emergence in England in the 60s, but when three major players from the scene joined forces it reached new heights. Arguably the first supergroup of “prog rock,” EL&P formed in 1970, an inspired coming-together of Keith Emerson, keyboardist with the Nice; Greg Lake, lead singer of King Crimson; and Carl Palmer, drummer for Atomic Rooster. The band’s debut eponymous album offered up the hit “Lucky Man” and commercial success and sold-out arena tours in Europe and the US were soon to follow. Hits like “Karn Evil 9” and “Still…You Turn Me On” remain classic gems of this conceptual form of rock.
